Production boards made by cobra

After several years of focusing strictly on building custom boards, Peter Thommen and Mark Thoms developed a board that stole the hearts of many windsurfers. It instantly became our bestseller.

Soon we found it was hard to keep up with demand. We realized it was time to allow more people into the magic world of the “Gleitwunder”, our gliding miracle, and take it to the world’s foremost board manufacturer Cobra in Thailand.

Together with the now more internationally named “Glide”, the magicians at Cobra will also fabricate our other favorite, the 125-liter “Ride”.

GLIDE

THE PLANING MIRACLE.

This is it. Recreational windsurfing revisited. Effortless planing in the lightest of breezes. Super smooth, yet remarkably quick, responsive and maneuverable. No need for huge, high priced professional-grade racing sails, any freeride or freemove sail will do.

There’s no ‘power hump’ to overcome. A specific Thommen golden era stretched rocker line and a vee-to-quad-concave bottom shape make for a gradual transition from gliding to planing and iron out chop like nothing else. Yet, unlike other “special light wind” boards, the Glide is efficient and remains truly fun to sail when the wind picks up. The super thin hull concept, combined with a ‘step rail’ design, is forgiving and promotes easy control for all levels of sailors, from beginner to expert.

Cruising around the bay? Anytime, any conditions. Carving jibes? No problem. Playing in open ocean swells? Bring it on.Chasing your buddies around the course? Hell, why not?!

The clever hull shape doesn’t need huge fins to get/keep going. It is designed with a tri-fin setup to roam all waters, deep or shallow. As a standard, there’s a 32cm powerbox fin in the rear and two matching 12cm trackers which are perfectly fitting the slotboxes. This setup enables you to track upwind like a squirrel up a tree and the side fins provide more grip in jibing. Both the LTD and STD models have our top quality G10 fins designed by Gasoil France, we’re convinced you’ll appreciate our refusal to compromise.

The 10” mast box allows for big sails in a slightly more forward position and small sails a bit into the rear section – take the center of the mast box as your base setting. Also, the longer box allows to adjust the mast position when the more forward positioned entry level strap positions* are used to prevent the board from luffing (*STD only).

Each Glide comes with a complementary tailored boardbag, the most sustainable packaging we could think of – and we’re convinced you’ll love its slots for the grab handle and fins.

The Glide is available in two constructions:

STD – standard – Cobra’s proven epoxy/glass/wood construction with extra glass band reinforcements where you need it. Testcenters rate this construction 9.5 out of 10.

LTD – limited – Cobra’s near custom made sandwich construction, incredible nice weight/stiffness ration for enhanced performance.

RIDE

THE UNIVERSAL WINDSURF BOARD.

Back to the future. There’s again a board capable of handling all conditions. Like for the Glide, Peter went back to the Bullet and Sunset years and used a stretched rocker line, the vee-to-quad-to-tri-concave for early planing and combined it with a little tail kick, thinner rails and wingers for control in stronger wind. It can haul big sails yet offers plenty of control when small sails are needed.

Reminiscent of the Glide, its bigger sibling, the Ride has no ‘power hump’ to overcome, the ‘extra’ length helps you ease into the planing phase without pumping – just sheet in and go.

Just like the world-famous Swiss Army Knife, the Ride from the hands of Swiss shaper Peter Thommen works on any water and any wind condition. The Ride is very much inspired by mythical boards like the Sailboard 295A and HiFly 295 Pro, incredible funboards from times the sport was still accessible to all levels.

Equipped with a 28cm powerbox fin in the rear and 2 tracker/side fins of 10cm with a slotbox fixation we’re confident it will work in most circumstances and makes it an ideal configuration for shallow and coastal waters. Both the LTD and STD models have top quality G10 fins designed by Gasoil France, you’ll appreciate our refusal to compromise.

The 10” mast box allows the use of a wide range of sail sizes. Use the center position as your base setting, slide mast foot 2cm’s more towards the front for bigger sails and 2cm’s more rear for smaller. We recommend a maximum sail size of around 7.0 (ok if you insist 7.5) down to 4.5/4.7, with the sweet spot being around the 5.7-6.3m2 mark. Now, how’s that for range?

Each Ride comes with a complementary tailored boardbag, the most sustainable packaging we could think of – and we’re convinced you’ll love the slots for the grab handle and fins.

The Ride is available in two constructions:

STD – standard – Cobra’s proven epoxy/glass/wood construction with extra glass band reinforcements where you need it. Testcenters rate this construction 9.5 out of 10.

LTD – limited – Cobra’s near custom made sandwich construction, incredible nice weight/stiffness ration for enhanced performance.

RIDE. Anywhere.
