SEMI-CUSTOM

Boards CNC shaped + hand made under the strict supervision of Peter Thommen himself.

After several years of focusing strictly on building custom boards, Peter Thommen and Mark Thoms developed a board that stole the hearts of many windsurfers. It instantly became our bestselling custom board with the illustrious name THOMMEN ‘GLEITWUNDER’

Struggling to keep up with demand, we realized it was time to allow more people into the magic world of this gliding miracle and make them in a serial production at Cobra in Thailand. Unfortunately the world situation in 2020 threw a curve-ball and supply ran dry, this forced us to now also build them similar to our custom boards but in a serial manner our so called semi-custom range.

Together with the now more internationally named ‘GLIDE’ we will also fabricate our other favorite, the ‘RIDE’, with our renowned 4WD as the basis concept to start from.

We expanded this serial made range to a total of 5 boards – RIDE-S, M & L and GLIDE-XL & 2XL – which all come in a custom construction. Now who doesn’t want to have the perfect combination of a tough build board that’s still reasonable light?

Prices start at approx €1.950 up to €2.200 for a board with 4 footstraps. At a surcharge there’s also a T1/Gasoil fin-package and tailored boardbag available to complete your new stick.

GLIDE XL + 2XL

THE ORIGINAL PLANING MIRACLE.

This is it. Recreational windsurfing revisited. Effortless planing in the lightest of breezes. Super smooth, yet remarkably quick, responsive and maneuverable. No need for huge, high priced professional-grade racing sails, any freeride or freemove sail will do.

There’s no ‘power hump’ to overcome. A specific Thommen golden era stretched rocker line and a vee-to-quad-concave bottom shape make for a gradual transition from gliding to planing and iron out chop like nothing else. Yet, unlike other “special light wind” boards, the Glide XL of 165L is efficient and remains truly fun to sail when the wind picks up. The super thin hull concept, combined with a ‘step rail’ design, is forgiving and promotes easy control for all levels of sailors, from beginner to expert.

The Glide 2XL with 195L is not only the ideal board for those putting more weight on the scale, it’s also the perfect platform to help you ease into the magical world of planing and footstrap sailing.

Cruising around the bay? Anytime, any conditions. Carving jibes? No problem. Playing in open ocean swells? Bring it on. Chasing your buddies around the course? Hell, why not?

The clever hull shape doesn’t need huge fins to get/keep going. It is designed with a tri-fin setup in mind enabling to roam all waters, deep or shallow.

At a surcharge of €150 there’s either a 32 or 34cm T1/Gasoil developed Powerbox fin in the rear and two 12cm Gasoil trackers which are perfectly fitting the slotbox10.

The 10” mast box allows for big sails in a more forward position and small sails in the rear section. Also, the longer box allows to adjust the mast position when the more forward positioned entry level strap positions are used so the board won’t luff into the wind when sheeting in the sail.

Both boards offer similar features to our full custom shapes, featuring a stepped-deck and multiple concave hull shape.

There’s an optional boardbag available for only €100 – we’re convinced you’ll love the integrated slots for the grab handle and tracker fins.

The Glide comes in a proven semi-custom epoxy/glass/sandwich construction with extra glass and carbon reinforcements where you need it.

The average Glide-XL weighs a slim 9kg and the 2XL puts only a slim 10kg on the scale*.   (*please accept our boards are made by human hands and not by robots, it’s no exact science and little weight tolerances may occur)

RIDE S, M + L

THE UNIVERSAL WINDSURF BOARD.

Back to the future. There’s again a board capable of handling all conditions. Like for the Glide, Peter went back to the Bullet and Sunset years and used a stretched rocker line, the Vee-to-Quad-to-Tri-concave for early planing and combined it with a little tail kick, thinner rails and wingers for control in stronger wind. There’s no real need but it can haul big sails yet offers plenty of control when small sails are needed.

Reminiscent of the Glide, its bigger sibling, the Ride has no power hump to overcome, the ‘extra’ length helps you ease into the planing phase without helping – just sheet in and go.

Just like the world-famous Swiss Army Knife, the Ride from the hands of Swiss shaper Peter Thommen works on any water and any wind condition. The Ride is based on our custom 4WD and very much inspired by mythical boards like the ‘Sailboard 295A’ and ‘HiFly 295 Pro’, two incredible funboards from times the sport was still accessible to all levels.

The 10” mast box allows the use of a wide range of sail sizes. For the middle sized M we recommend a maximum of 7.0 down to 4.0, with the sweet spot being around 5.5-6.0m2. Now, how’s that for a wind range? The center point of the mast box is always your starting point, move with 1-2cm forward for bigger sails and 1-2cm back for smaller.

At a surcharge of only €150 you can equip your Ride with the original T1/Gasoil fin pack consisting of a 28, 30 or 32cm Powerbox fin and 2 side fins of 9 or 10cm with a slotbox fixation keeping all options open for a personal set up which makes it also ideal for shallow and coastal waters.

There’s a tailored boardbag available at extra charge of €100 and yes, we’re convinced you’ll love the slots for the grab handle and tracker fins.

All three boards offer similar features to our full custom shapes, featuring a stepped-deck and multiple concave hull shapes.

The Glide comes in a proven semi-custom epoxy/glass/sandwich construction with extra glass and carbon reinforcements where you need it.

The average Ride-S puts a fat 7kg on the scale, the M weighs a skinny 8kg and the L of 145L a fat 8kg yet well below the 9kg mark*. (*please accept our boards are made by human hands and not by robots, it’s no exact science and little weight tolerances may occur)

RIDE. Anywhere.

Colors

Your new Thommen semi-custom board comes standard in a white ‘pro-finish’, making them well protected from UV and easy to repair in case it’s needed. Later on a few limited editions will be available in yellow at €100 surcharge. The black logos are spray painted onto your board using UV stabilized paint, we just don’t like stickers.

Disclaimer: Custom board building is not an exact science. Variations in fiber layup and placements of reinforcements due to specific needs or different construction schedule may alter the visual aspects of the finished board..

HOW WE BUILD OUR SEMI-CUSTOMS

Thommen custom boards are CNC milled and hand built in Thessaloniki under the supervision of Peter Thommen himself. This explains the new Trident logo for our semi-custom boards.

With the master of shape boasting on 40+ years of experience you know the performance is peak, but be also assured we pursue the highest standard in building your board. Each Thommen semi-custom board has a full sandwich lay-up around the CNC milled EPS core, consisting of the impact resilient SAN hard foam with epoxy/fiberglass inner and outer layers. Stress and impact areas get additional fiberglass/carbon reinforcements, so we’re sure your new board is up to the task.
