Thommen Sailboards semi-custom series
We are excited to introduce our new Thommen semi-custom series.
We’ve been offering custom designed boards for decades now and we will continue this service for you in the future. We appreciate the one-on-one interaction with you, offering tailor-made solutions, and learning from your feedback. We are constantly adjusting design parameters and tweaking lamination schedules to fit every board for you.
These experiences and acquired knowledge enabled us to fine-tune our Master Series models. Over time, we observed that the design changes from one customer to another became smaller, less significant, and that certain models and sizes dominated the order list.
The idea of a semi-custom line became evident. Peter had already moved his custom-building operation to Thailand and hence intensified the collaboration with Cobra, already the manufacturer of our production boards.
TECHNOLOGY
Our new semi-custom series. A select choice of models from our Master Series. CNC-shaped and hand-built to specifications derived from our custom boards like the carbon-X reinforcements and the extensive use of high tensile strength S-glass.
GLEITWUNDER 165 ORIGINAL
THE PLANING MIRACLE.
No introduction needed. Since its inception the Gleitwunder 165 had people wondering and scratching their heads. Peter’s cocktail of old-school wisdom (rocker lines) and modern insight delivers a surprising mix of ease, speed, and handling. It opened a new chapter in recreational windsurfing: Increasing the useful wind range and expanding the playground from flat water to ocean swells and even moderate waves. Most importantly, the Gleitwunder triggered spectacular increases in on-the-water time for all our clients…
The GLEITWUNDER 165 ORIGINAL is the semi-custom replica of the first prototypes and custom boards we built. Its appeal and performance remain unmatched.

CROSS-R2
THE FAST & FURIOUS CROSSOVER.
This design carries the concept of mid-sized jump & bump boards further and up into the leisure & pleasure arena of windsurfing. Fast acceleration, excellent top speed, yet comfortable and easy to handle are its trademarks. Thinned out rails and moderate tail area keep the power in check even when the going gets tough ‘n rough in windy and choppy conditions. The CROSS-R2 is a master blaster.

4WD
THE UNIVERSAL FUNBOARD.
The 4WD is the Jack of all trades in our Master Series. A board for all conditions most recreational windsurfers will encounter. It gets going quickly and is surprisingly fast, easy to control even in harsh conditions and yet capable of remarkably tight, planning turns. The customer feedback was so enthusiastic we used it as the template for our popular Ride 255 production boards. Without regrets. With the 4WD 135 we opted to offer you a bigger version of this acclaimed design in our Thommen semi-custom line. It fits nicely between the Ride 255 and the Glide 265.

HYBRID
THE SURF AND THE TURF.
Back in the days, when windsurf boards gotten shorter and stripped of their daggerboards, those new sticks were called “Fun boards”. Our Hybrid is the todays’ equivalent. Specifically designed to make windsurfing in stronger winds available and enjoyable to a wider scope of sailors with wide-ranging ability levels. The Hybrid models feature fast-planning rocker lines and outlines balancing delicately surface vs power. Moderate dimensions further boost the excellent hop-on-and-enjoy experience.

The F-Wave is the prominent allrounder in our lineup. Designed as an easy going ‘Euro-Waver’ for every imaginable wave and wind condition, it quickly became a favorite with our customers. The combination of a fast-planning rocker, a maneuver-oriented outline, and a balanced volume and surface distribution makes for a board that is easy to handle and exploit for all windsurfers. THE GLOBE IS YOUR PLAYGROUND.
Make you sail at your very best. Our G-Wave was designed with that belief in mind. A well-balanced all-round wave board. Its ease of control will “buy” you that split second allowing you to pull off your most daring maneuvers or escaping tricky situations. The thin step-rails facilitate grip in both high-speed bottom turns and snappy top turns. The G-Wave is your reliable companion in on-shore or side-shore conditions and it’s equally at home in the challenging choppy stuff you’ll encounter on windy and stormy days on your big lakes and bays.

GLIDEwonder 285
GLEITWUNDER’S BIGGER BROTHER.
Gleitwunder’s bigger brother. The GLIDEwonder 285 applies the same design principles, but in an XXL-package. With 285cm it’s 20cm longer than the original. This helps novice and intermediate windsurfers overcome the gliding-to-planning threshold with ease. That’s a guaranteed confidence booster. Furthermore, an extra 30 liters of volume make the Gleitwunder experience accessible and enjoyable when you put some more weight on the scale than the original 165-liter version can carry.
We offer the GLIDEwonder 285 in two constructions versions.
GLIDEwonder 285 LITE adapts our regular Thommen semi-custom layup schedule. It’s a bigger Gleitwunder.
GLIDEwonder 285 HD (as in ‘Heavy Duty’) features an overall beefier construction, added reinforcements, additional footstrap positions for novice windsurfers and a traction pad that seamlessly covers the standing area.

GLIDEwonder 325
At Thommen Sailboards we listen to our customers. We never dismiss their comments or suggestions however outlandish they might first sound. When interest in a modern ‘old-school funboard’, revisiting classics like mid-nineties Comet or Malibu, became a regularly stated topic, Peter started digging in his yesteryear’s notebooks, yet with today’s comprehension and technologies in mind. This led to the GLIDEwonder 325. In essence an elongated Gleitwunder. We carried over the quad-concave bottom contour for its chop-smoothening characteristics, but opted for a straight, parallel configuration adding directional stability and efficiency. To further enhance smooth and seamless transition from gliding to planning and to add comfort in harsher conditions at the same time, the rail contours were designed with much added tuck in the bow section. It’s not a new concept: it had been first successfully adapted on early PanAm-style raceboards in the mid-eighties.
We offer the GLIDEwonder 325 in two different shapes and constructions.
GLIDEwonder 325 LITE is 78 centimeters wide and features a volume of 225 liters. The construction follows the Thommen semi-custom schedule.
GLIDEwonder 325 HD is 82.5 centimeters wide and boosts a volume of 245 liters, a beefier construction, additional beginner-oriented footstrap position and a standing area covering traction pad.
